The European Central Bank (ECB) has published a report on EU banking sector stability that was prepared by the Banking Supervision Committee of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB). This Committee comprises representatives of EU national central banks and banking supervisory authorities and the ECB.

Euro Area Annual Inflation up to 2.6% in October 2007

Euro area annual inflation was 2.6% in October 2007, up from 2.1% in September. A year earlier the rate was 1.6%. Monthly inflation was 0.5% in October 2007. EU annual inflation was 2.7% in October 2007, up from 2.2% in September. A year earlier the rate was 1.8%. Monthly inflation was 0.5% in October 2007.

Ten Ways in which Europeans have Benefited from the Single Market

Over the last 15 years the Single Market has increased the EU's prosperity by 2.15% of GDP. In 2006 alone this meant an overall increase of €240 billion - or €518 for every EU citizen - compared to a situation without the Single Market.

The Leading Index for Spain Increased 0.1 Percent

EU Crackdown on Misleading Airline Ticket Websites

EU Consumer Commissioner Meglena Kuneva announced the results of an EU wide investigation - involving 15 EU national authorities as well as Norway – against misleading advertising and unfair practices on airline ticket selling websites. The clampdown covers Europe's leading airlines, low cost carriers as well as other websites selling airline tickets. The results of the inquiry show that over 50% of all websites showed irregularities, in particular relating to price indications, contract terms and clarity of proposed conditions.

An analysis of recent Eurostat figures shows ongoing positive developments in the European labour market. The continuing strong employment growth in Spain and the recent labour market recovery in Germany and Poland have been the main drivers behind the good overall EU performance.

Euro Area GDP Up by 0.7% and EU27 Up by 0.8% in Third Quarter of 2007

GDP grew by 0.7% in the euro area (EA13) and by 0.8% in the EU27 during the third quarter of 2007, compared with the previous quarter, according to flash estimates published by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In the second quarter of 2007, growth rates were +0.3% in the euro area and +0.5% in the EU27.

EP: MEPs Vote to Curb Airline Emissions by Including them in European Trading Scheme

In adopting a first-reading report, MEPs backed the Commission's plan to include the aviation sector in the EU emissions trading scheme (ETS). While the Commission had proposed capping ETS allowances for CO2 emissions at 100 percent of aircraft operators' average annual emissions during 2004-2006, the EP went even further, reducing the number of ETS-authorised emissions for aviation to 90 percent. The House also voted to exclude all military flights from the scope of the directive.
