A European Commission plan to include aviation in the EU's Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) was backed by the Environment Committee on Tuesday, but with significantly tougher CO2 emission limits, and a stipulation that the ETS should include flights between the EU and third countries, as well as intra-EU ones, by 2010, rather than 2012 as the Commission had proposed.

The VocaLink take home pay index for September reveals a 0.5% slowdown in wage growth - the biggest month-on-month drop since May. More workers in Hungary are exposed to health and safety risks at work than elsewhere in the ten new EU Member States, but nine out of ten workers (91.6%) in Hungary consider themselves well-informed about health and safety risks. This level of information about health and safety risks at work is higher in Hungary than on average in the EU15 (82.4%) and in the new Member States (88.3%).

The European Investment Bank (EIB) will invest EUR 25 million in the Enercap Power Fund, which will support renewable energy infrastructure projects in Central and South-Eastern Europe. A significant proportion of the investments made by the Fund are expected to be in Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Croatia, and the Czech Republic.
