In November 2007 compared with October 2007, seasonally adjusted industrial production fell by 0.5% in the euro area (EA13) and by 0.3% in the EU27. In October production grew by 0.5% in both zones. In November 2007 compared with November 2006, industrial production rose by 2.7% in the euro area and by 2.6% in the EU27.

The demographic make-up of Europe is changing. We are getting older and the number of people of working age is decreasing. A study commissioned in 2007 on "Europe's Demographic Future" found that around 56 million immigrant workers could be needed by 2050 to compensate for this decline.

The active phase of the euro changeover is now nearly finished in Cyprus and Malta. Thanks to intensive and systematic preparations and to the active and enthusiastic participation of citizens, the euro has been introduced quickly but smoothly into the daily life of the Cypriot and Maltese populations and the former currencies have now nearly vanished from wallets. Drawing the lessons of the 2002, 2007 and 2008 changeovers, the Commission has adopted a new recommendation on the organisation of future euro changeovers.

Consumers across Europe would be able to make better informed choices when they take out consumer credit loans - paying for holidays, weddings or a new car - following a vote in the European Parliament on Wednesday 16th January 2008. The proposed EU Directive on Consumer Credit Loans aims to break open the €800 billion EU consumer loans market which remains largely fragmented into national markets denying consumers choice and more competitive prices. The new rules will make the market more transparent for consumers and business competitors.

Thirty-eight venture-backed European companies completed initial public offerings (IPOs) in 2007, raising 893.6 million euro, according to European Liquidity Report from Dow Jones VentureSource. This is down 49% from 2006, which saw 1.74 billion euro raised through 89 venture-backed IPOs, and is a sharp contrast to the United States' robust IPO market.
