Euro Area MFI Interest Rate Statistics in April 2008

In April 2008 most euro area average MFI interest rates on new deposits were higher than in the previous month. While the majority of euro area average MFI interest rates on new loans were basically unchanged, they rose by about 10 basis points in the case of loans to non-financial corporations at a floating rate or with an initial rate fixation period of up to one year.

In April 2008, compared with March 2008, the volume of retail trade fell by 0.6% in the euro area (EA15) and by 0.4% in the EU27. In March retail trade fell by 0.9% and 1.1% respectively.

Euro Area And EU27 GDP Up By 0.8% in Q1 2008

Euro area (EA15) and EU27 GDP grew by 0.8% in the first quarter of 2008, compared with the previous quarter, according to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In the fourth quarter of 2007, growth rates were +0.3% in the euro area and +0.5% in the EU27.

Industrial Producer Prices Up By 0.8% In Euro Area

In April 2008 compared with March 2008, the industrial producer price index rose by 0.8% in the euro area (EA15) and by 0.9% in the EU27. In March3 prices increased by 0.7% in both zones.
