Europeans support greater EU action on energy and climate change

According to a recent Eurobarometer opinion survey, the overwhelming majority of European Union citizens are concerned about climate change. Europeans are well aware of the impact of energy production and consumption on climate change and global warming, while an overwhelming majority feel that the best way to tackle energy-related issues would be at EU level.

Industrial producer prices up by 0.1% in euro area

The euro area (EA13) industrial producer price index rose by 0.1% in January 2007 compared to December 2006, while EU27 prices remained unchanged. In December 2006 prices remained unchanged in both the euro area and the EU27.

February 2007: Economic sentiment strengthens in both the EU and the euro area

The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) increased in both the EU and the euro area in February. The indicator increased by 1.3 points in the EU and by 0.5 of a point in the euro area, to 112.0 and 109.7 respectively.

Euro area (EA13) seasonally-adjusted unemployment stood at 7.4% in January 2007, compared with 7.5% in December 2006. It was 8.3% in January 2006. The EU27 unemployment rate was 7.5% in January 2007, compared with 7.6% in December 2006. It was 8.3% in January 2006.

Euro area annual inflation down to 1.8%

Euro area annual inflation was 1.8% in January 2007, down from 1.9% in December 2006. A year earlier the rate was 2.4%. Monthly inflation was -0.5% in January 2007. EU annual inflation was 2.1% in January 2007, down from 2.2% in December 2006. A year earlier the rate was 2.3%. Monthly inflation was -0.4% in January 2007.
