In 2012 - Less Nitrogen Oxides and Particulate Matters from Trucks and Buses

The European Commission welcomes support of the European Parliament for its proposal to reduce in 2012 emissions from trucks and busses of nitrogen oxides by 80% and particulate matter by 66% compared to the Euro V stage.

Fitch Ratings says that its 2009 credit outlook report for the European integrated oil and gas sector shows that European oil and gas companies should be able to maintain healthy credit metrics despite the agency forecasting a slowdown in global economic growth next year. Fitch believes European integrated oil and gas companies will be able to sustain robust credit metrics in the face of hurdles an economic downturn could raise, such as a reduction in demand for crude oil and greater volatility in crude oil prices than in recent years.

Half A Billion Inhabitants In The EU27 On 1 January 2009

According to first demographic estimates published by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, the EU27 will have a population of 499.7 million on 1 January 2009. The population of the new euro area, including Slovakia, will be 328.6 million on 1 January 2009.

Industrial Production Down by 1.2% in Both Euro Area and EU27

In October 2008 compared with September 2008, seasonally adjusted industrial production fell by 1.2% in both the euro area (EA15) and the EU272. In September production decreased by 1.8% and 1.3% respectively.

Euro Area Labour Costs Rose by 4.0%: Third Quarter of 2008

Total hourly labour costs in the euro area (EA15) rose by 4.0% in nominal terms in the year up to the third quarter of 2008, compared with 2.8% for the previous quarter. In the EU27, the annual rise was 4.1% up to the third quarter of 2008, compared with 3.6% for the previous quarter.

EC adopted a proposal for a regulation that would involve working with Member States to designate international rail corridors providing operators with an efficient, high-quality freight transport infrastructure.
