Euro Area Investment Fund Statistics: June 2010

In June 2010, the amount outstanding of shares/units issued by euro area investment funds other than money market funds was marginally lower than one quarter earlier in March 2010. This resulted from share/unit prices declining on average, but being partly offset by net issues of shares/units.

The Conference Board Leading Economic Index® (LEI) for France declined 0.3 percent and The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index® (CEI) decreased 0.1 percent in June.

Construction Output up by 2.7% in Euro Area in June 2010

In the construction sector, seasonally adjusted production rose by 2.7% in the euro area (EA16) and by 3.5% in the EU27 in June 2010, compared with the previous month. In May, production fell by 0.7% and 0.1% respectively.

Euro Area Balance of Payments in June 2010

In June 2010 the seasonally adjusted current account of the euro area recorded a deficit of EUR 4.6 billion. In the financial account, combined direct and portfolio investment recorded net outflows of EUR 4 billion (non-seasonally adjusted).

Euro Area Annual Inflation up to 1.7%

Euro area annual inflation was 1.7% in July 2010, up from 1.4% in June. A year earlier the rate was -0.6%. Monthly inflation was -0.3% in July 2010.

Euro Area External Trade Surplus 2.4 bn Euro

The first estimate for the euro area (EA16) trade balance with the rest of the world in June 2010 gave a 2.4 bn euro surplus, compared with +5.2 bn in June 2009. The May 2010 balance was -3.3 bn, compared with +1.9 bn in May 2009. In June 2010 compared with May 2010, seasonally adjusted exports rose by 5.2% and imports by 4.3%.

Euro Area and EU27 GDP up by 1.0%

GDP increased by 1.0% in both the euro area (EA16) and the EU27 during the second quarter of 2010, compared with the previous quarter, according to flash estimates published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In the first quarter of 2010, growth rates were +0.2% in both zones.

Industrial Production Down by 0.1% in Euro Area

In June 2010 compared with May 2010, seasonally adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.1% in the euro area (EA16) and remained stable in the EU27. In May production increased by 1.1% and 1.3% respectively.
