Monster Employment Index France Dips in August 2008

The Monster Employment Index France dropped sharply by nine points in August, to 160, as recruitment activity cooled following intense hiring activity throughout the earlier summer months, most notably in the hospitality and tourism sector.

Year-on-year the Index was grew six points, or four percent. The Monster Employment Index Europe is a monthly analysis of millions of online job opportunities culled from a large, representative selection of corporate career sites and job boards across France, including Monster.fr.

- The Monster Employment Index France fell nine points, settling at the 160 level in August. Year-on-year the Index was up six points, or four percent

- Hospitality and tourism saw the largest decline among sectors, cooling considerably from the heated levels seen in July due to seasonal hiring. Fewer online opportunities were also seen in the sales sector

- By contrast engineering; construction and extraction; automotive; and defence sectors all experienced growth and were significantly up on year-earlier figures

- Elementary occupations continued to decline whilst online opportunities rose for plant and machine operators and assemblers

- IIe de France fell the most in August, but nonetheless maintained its position as the top growth region year-on-year
