Monster Employment Index France Dips for Third Consecutive Month
added: 2008-10-15

The Monster Employment Index France dipped five points, settling at a level of 155 in September. However, year-on-year growth was largely unchanged at eight points, indicating continued resilience in underlying online job demand.

Hospitality and tourism saw the largest monthly and annual decline among sectors, as the holiday season came towards a close and waning consumer spending weighed on the industry hiring outlook.

By contrast, the engineering sector rose in the Index for a second month and registered the strongest annual growth rate among sectors, signaling still-elevated demand for highly skilled technical workers.

Technicians and associate professionals were the only occupational group not to register a decline in online job availability in September while craft and relatedworkers saw the largest increase in opportunities on a year-on-year basis.

The North region experienced the greatest decline in advertised offerings in September. Despite a marked downshift during the third quarter, Ile de France remains the top growth region from an annual perspective.

Summary Overview

The Monster Employment Index France dropped five points in September to 155, as online recruitment activity continued cooling from its latest peak in June. Despite the fall, year-on-year the Index grew eight points, or 5 percent, in line with the EU average.
