Latest UK Regional Trade Estimates
added: 2006-09-07

Latest UK Regional Trade in Goods estimates show that total exports between Quarter one 2006 and Quarter two 2006 rose in all 12 of the regions and countries of the UK.

Estimates for UK exports to the rest of EU25 rose by £1,104m between Quarter
one 2006 and Quarter two 2006. Only two of the regions and countries saw a
decrease: the South East and the South West. During the same period, exports
to countries outside EU25 increased by £1,483m, though there was a decrease
in exports from the West Midlands.

The value of exports includes trade associated with Missing Trader
Intra-Community fraud. The recent growth in the value of this trade will
contribute to the increase in the overall value of exports (see background
note).

The value of total imports into the UK increased between Quarter one 2006
and Quarter two 2006. Only three of the 12 regions and countries of the UK
saw decreases: these were the North East, the South East and Scotland.

Estimates for imports into the UK from EU25 decreased by £1,476m. However,
only four of the 12 regions and countries saw decreases. These were the East
of England, the South East, the South West and Wales. For imports into the
UK from countries outside EU25, there was an increase of £1,598m. Decreases
were only seen in the North East and Scotland.
