Industrial Production Down by 0.1% in Euro Area in June 2007

Seasonally adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.1% in the euro area (EA13) in June 2007 compared with May 2007. Production grew by 1.0% in May and fell by 0.9% in April. In the EU27 output remained unchanged in June, after an increase of 0.7% in May and a decrease of 0.5% in April. In June 2007 compared with June 2006, industrial production rose by 2.3% in the euro area and by 2.5% in the EU27.

Monthly comparison

In June 2007 compared with May 2007, intermediate goods and production of energy increased by 0.3% in both zones. Capital goods remained stable in the euro area, but fell by 0.1% in the EU27. Durable consumer goods decreased by 0.1% in the euro area, but increased by 0.9% in the EU27. Non-durable consumer goods dropped by 0.3% and 0.2% respectively.

In June 2007, and among the Member States for which data are available, industrial production rose in twelve Member States, fell in eight and remained stable in Portugal. The highest increases were registered in Bulgaria (+4.1%), the Netherlands (+2.9%) and Slovenia (+2.5%), while the largest decreases were recorded in Romania (-2.1%), Estonia (-1.2%) and Ireland (-0.7%).

Annual comparison

In June 2007 compared with June 2006, production of capital goods increased by 4.2% in the euro area and by 4.9% in the EU27. Intermediate goods grew by 2.7% and 2.9% respectively. Durable consumer goods rose by 1.8% in the euro area and 3.0% in the EU27. Non-durable consumer goods gained 1.8% and 1.5% respectively. The energy sector fell by 0.9% in the euro area and by 1.0% in the EU27.

In June 2007, and among the Member States for which data are available, industrial production rose in eighteen Member States and fell in three. The highest increases were registered in Bulgaria (+14.6%), Slovakia (+12.0%), Slovenia (+10.0%) and Poland (+7.8%), while decreases were recorded in Denmark (-2.1%), France (-1.3%) and Italy (-0.1%).
