In April 2007, compared with the previous month, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector rose by 0.4% in both the euro area and the EU27. Prices in the energy sector increased by 0.5% in the euro area, but decreased by 0.1% in the EU27. Intermediate goods gained 0.8% in both zones. Non-durable consumer goods rose by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.2% in the EU27. In both zones, capital goods and durable consumer goods increased by 0.1%.
Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were registered in Bulgaria and Greece (both +1.9%) and Denmark (+1.8%). Decreases were recorded in the United Kingdom (-0.8%), Slovakia (-0.3%) and Belgium (-0.1%).
Annual changes
In April 2007, compared with April 2006, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector increased by 3.4% in the euro area and by 3.6% in the EU27. Prices in the energy sector fell by 0.7% in the euro area and by 1.6% in the EU27. Intermediate goods gained 5.8% and 5.9% respectively. In both zones, capital goods rose by 2.0% and durable consumer goods by 1.8%. Non-durable consumer goods gained 1.6% in the euro area and 2.1% in the EU27.
Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were observed in Luxembourg (+8.7%), Hungary (+8.0%), Bulgaria (+7.9%) and Lithuania (+7.3%). A decrease was registered in Denmark (-2.3%).
