Industrial Producer Prices Up by 0.3% in Both Euro Area and EU27 in July 2007

In July 2007 compared with June 2007, the industrial producer price index rose by 0.3% in the euro area (EA13). In July, EU27 prices also gained 0.3%. In June, prices increased by 0.1% in the euro area and by 0.2% in the EU27.

In July 2007 compared with July 2006, industrial producer prices gained 1.8% in the euro area and 1.7% in the EU27.

Monthly changes

In July 2007, compared with the previous month, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector rose by 0.2% in both the euro area and the EU27. Prices in the energy sector gained 0.5% and 0.7% respectively. In both zones, non-durable consumer goods increased by 0.3%, intermediate goods by 0.2% and capital goods and durable consumer goods by 0.1%.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were registered in Bulgaria (+2.1%), the Netherlands (+0.9%) and Lithuania (+0.8%). The only decreases were recorded in Denmark and Germany (both -0.1%), while prices remained unchanged in Sweden.

Annual changes

In July 2007, compared with July 2006, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector increased by 2.9% in the euro area and by 3.1% in the EU27. Prices in the energy sector fell by 1.9% and 2.2% respectively. Intermediate goods gained 4.6% in the euro area and 4.7% in the EU27. Non-durable consumer goods increased by 1.8% and 2.1% respectively. Durable consumer goods rose by 1.7% in the euro area and by 1.8% in the EU27. Capital goods gained 1.7% in both zones.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were observed in Bulgaria (+7.7%), Luxembourg (+7.5%), Lithuania (+6.9%) and Hungary (+6.2%). The only decrease was registered in Denmark (-2.4%).
