These estimates are released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
Monthly changes
In January 2011 compared with December 2010, new orders for intermediate goods rose by 4.4% in the euro area and by 4.1% in the EU27. Durable consumer goods gained 2.8% and 2.6% respectively. Non-durable consumer goods fell by 1.3% in the euro area, but grew by 0.1% in the EU27. Capital goods dropped by 2.6% and 3.4% respectively.
Among the Member States for which data are available, total manufacturing working on orders rose in ten and fell in eleven. The highest increases were registered in Denmark (+13.4%), Latvia (+11.9%) and Bulgaria (+9.4%), and the largest decreases in Estonia (-34.5%), France (-7.8%) and Finland (-7.7%).
Annual changes
In January 2011 compared with January 2010, new orders for intermediate goods rose by 25.6% in the euro area and by 23.9% in the EU27. Capital goods increased by 23.4% and 19.9% respectively. Durable consumer goods grew by 6.1% in the euro area and by 6.5% in the EU27. Non-durable consumer goods gained 3.8% and 2.6% respectively.
Total manufacturing working on orders rose in all Member States for which data are available. The highest increases were registered in Latvia (+75.9%), Estonia (+73.4%) and Lithuania (+43.6%), and the lowest in the United Kingdom (+1.0%), Ireland (+9.6%) and Poland (+10.0%).
