EU: Industrial producer prices up by 0.3% in May

In May 2007, compared with the previous month, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector rose by 0.3% in both the euro area and the EU27. Prices in the energy sector increased by 0.5% in the euro area, and remained stable in the EU27. In both zones, intermediate goods gained 0.5%, non-durable consumer goods 0.2% and capital goods and durable consumer goods 0.1%.

Monthly changes

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were registered in Lithuania (+2.0%), Luxembourg (+1.2%), Bulgaria (+0.7%) and Denmark (+0.6%). Decreases were recorded in Sweden (-0.4%), the United Kingdom (-0.3%) and Slovakia (-0.1%), while prices remained unchanged in France.

Annual changes

In May 2007, compared with May 2006, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector increased by 3.2% in the euro area and by 3.4% in the EU27. Prices in the energy sector fell by 0.5% in the euro area and by 1.7% in the EU27. Intermediate goods gained 5.4% and 5.5% respectively. Capital goods rose by 2.0% in the euro area and by 2.1% in the EU27. In both zones, durable consumer goods gained 1.8%. Non-durable consumer goods increased by 1.7% in the euro area and by 2.0% in the EU27.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were observed in Lithuania (+9.8%), Luxembourg (+9.0%) and Hungary (+7.8%). Decreases were registered in Denmark (-0.7%) and the United Kingdom (-0.2%).
