Among the EU27 Member States for which data are available for May 2007, construction output rose in seven Member States, fell in four and remained stable in the Netherlands and in Sweden. The most significant increases were recorded in Slovenia (+9.4%), Portugal (+4.2%) and Belgium (+3.1%). The most significant decreases were registered in Romania (-7.0%), Slovakia (-2.1%) and the Czech Republic (-1.9%).
Building construction rose by 0.5% in the euro area and by 0.3% in the EU27, after decreases of 2.1% and 0.4% respectively in April. Civil engineering fell by 0.7% in the euro area and by 0.9% in the EU27, after a decrease of 0.2% in the euro area and an increase of 0.5% in the EU27 in the previous month.
Annual comparison
In May 2007, among the EU27 Member States for which data are available, construction output rose in ten Member States and fell in three. The largest increases were recorded in Slovenia (+48.7%), Romania (+27.6%) and Poland (+16.0%). The only decreases were recorded in Portugal (-4.9%), Germany (-2.7%) and Sweden (-2.2%).
Building construction rose by 1.8% in the euro area and by 2.3% in the EU27, after increases of 2.1% and 4.1% respectively in April. Civil engineering grew by 0.1% in the euro area and by 1.3% in the EU27, after increases of 6.6% and 8.8% respectively in the previous month.
