Among the Member States for which data are available for April 2007, construction output rose in five Member States, fell in seven and remained stable in the Netherlands. The most significant increases were recorded in the United Kingdom (+3.6%), Romania (+2.8%) and Slovakia (+1.5%). The largest decreases were registered in Belgium (-5.3%), Spain (-4.7%) and Germany (-2.9%).
Building construction fell by 1.6% in the euro area and by 0.1% in the EU27, after increases of 0.8% and 0.9% respectively in March. Civil engineering decreased by 0.1% in the euro area, but rose by 0.4% in the EU27, after increases of 0.2% and 0.8% respectively in the previous month.
Annual comparison
Among the Member States for which data are available for April 2007, construction output rose in ten Member States and fell in three. The largest increases were recorded in Romania (+36.2%), Poland (+33.5%) and Slovenia (+31.8%), while decreases were registered in Portugal (-3.6%), Sweden (-1.5%) and Belgium (-0.9%).
Building construction rose by 2.8% in the euro area and by 6.0% in the EU27, compared with annual increases of 9.5% and 9.9% respectively in March. Civil engineering grew by 7.4% in the euro area and by 9.5% in the EU27, compared with annual increases of 13.1% and 12.2% respectively in March.
