Construction Output Down by 0.8% in the Euro Area in November 2007

In the construction sector, seasonally adjusted production fell by 0.8% in the euro area (EA13) and by 0.2% in the EU27 in November 2007, compared with the previous month. In October, production increased by 0.6% in the euro area and by 0.3% in the EU27.

Compared with November 2006, output in November 2007 decreased by 0.8% in the euro area, but gained 0.8% in the EU27. In October3 the annual growth was 2.8% in the euro area and 3.0% in the EU27.

Monthly comparison[b]

Among the Member States for which data are available for November 2007, construction output rose in three and fell in seven. Increases were recorded in Poland (+2.3%), Romania (+1.8%) and Sweden (+1.6%). The largest decreases were registered in Spain (-3.9%), Portugal (-2.8%) and Slovenia (-2.6%).

Building construction fell by 1.1% in the euro area and by 0.2% in the EU27, after +0.9% and +0.2% respectively in October. Civil engineering decreased by 0.5% in both the euro area and the EU27, after +0.1% and +0.4% respectively in the previous month.

Among the Member States for which data are available for November 2007, construction output rose in six and fell in four. The largest increases were recorded in Romania (+32.6%), Poland (+11.1%) and Slovenia (+9.1%). The highest decreases were recorded in Germany and Slovakia (both -6.3%) and Spain (-6.2%).
